About ORT Boxing Club
From 3 boxers at St Mary's Catholic Church Hall to Kajiado County champions and national contenders — this is the journey of ORT Boxing Club.
Our Purpose
To search, develop, and nurture talents among the youth. ORTBC was established with the aim of rescuing young people from crime, alcoholism, drugs, and substance abuse — and to help society by providing a disciplined, hardworking, and productive generation.
Our Vision
To be one of the best boxing clubs in Kenya — in terms of management and performance — not only in Kajiado County but across the nation. To produce world-class boxers and to provide Kenya's national team with skilled and talented fighters.
From St Mary's Church to National Stage
On 15th February 2005, at St Mary's Catholic Church Hall in Ongata Rongai, former Kenyan International Boxer Peter Ogeya founded what would become one of the most impactful boxing clubs in Kajiado County. He started with just three boxers.
He was soon joined by Henry Mwangi (Hechii) and Evans Mugune as supporting staff. Together, they built the foundation of a club that would transform the lives of hundreds of young people in Ongata Rongai.
In the early days, the club was more than just training — members volunteered for community work like street cleaning and garbage collection, earning the trust and respect of the community, parents, and local authorities.
Today, ORTBC is based at Talanta Social Hall Building in Ongata Rongai Ward, Kajiado North Sub County, with a second branch at Olekasasi Hall. The club has produced almost the entire Kajiado County boxing team — 10 out of 12 boxers — and competes nationally as an independent outfit.

Milestones & Achievements
The Beginning
On 15th February 2005, Coach Peter Ogeya — a former Kenyan International Boxer — founded ORT Boxing Club at St Mary's Catholic Church Hall with just 3 boxers. He was soon joined by Henry Mwangi (Hechii) and Evans Mugune as supporting staff.
Community Roots
In the early years, the club focused on grouping members for training and volunteering in the community — cleaning streets and collecting garbage. Building trust and respect with the community of Ongata Rongai.
Growth & Development
Membership grew steadily from 3 boxers to dozens. ORTBC didn't just grow its own roster — it helped develop boxing across Kajiado County, which now boasts 8 active teams thanks to the club's influence.
National Boxing League
ORTBC placed 3rd at the National Boxing League Championships, proving the club belongs among Kenya's elite boxing programs.
National Novice Championship
2nd place at the National Novice Championship in Nairobi (Feb 13–15), competing against all 47 county teams plus KDF, Kenya Police, and Prisons.
Olekasasi Branch Opens
On April 23rd, 2024, ORTBC expanded by opening a second training branch at Olekasasi Hall, extending its reach in the community.
National Intermediate Tournament
2nd place at the National Intermediate Tournament hosted at Talanta Social Hall in Ongata Rongai (May 24–27), against all 47 counties and armed forces.
Nairobi vs Kajiado Champions
ORTBC fighters dominated the Nairobi vs. Kajiado Championship on June 20th, 2024, emerging in 1st place.
Independent National Status
ORTBC was granted permission to compete in all county and national competitions as an independent outfit, rather than only as part of the Kajiado County Team.
Our Challenges
- •Most of our boxers are students who lack financial support for training and competition.
- •Lack of training kits and equipment like mats, gloves, and gym equipment for skill development.
- •Participation costs for county and national competitions remain a persistent obstacle.
Our Triumphs
- •Won the hearts, confidence, and trust of the community, parents, and authorities over the years.
- •Partnered with WAMA Hospital, who have supported the club for the past year.
- •By God's Grace, we have managed to navigate every challenge and continue building champions.
Our Future Plans
We're not done yet. Here's where ORT Boxing Club is headed.
Grow Youth Participation
Involve and bring many more young people into the sport of boxing.
Sports Academy
Establish a full sports academy that will include all sports — not just boxing.
Education Fund
Establish an education fund for our members, as most of them are still in school.
Change Boxing's Image
Educate society about boxing by exhibiting the sport at schools and community events.
Income Projects
Establish income-generating projects like carwash, mkokoteni business, and barbershop to sustain boxers and the club.
World-Class Boxers
Produce world-class boxers and provide Kenya's national team with skilled, talented fighters.
